5 Tips On Keyword Search.
These 5 tips on keyword search will help you create quality content for each page of your website. Doing SEO keyword search is the early stages of search engine optimisation, and getting your website ranked in organic listings. The search engines are driven by keywords and trends, which is why it is important to put keyword research at the front end of any content you create.
The priority of keywords are important when optimising your site for visitors and the search engines. There is no definite limit to the number of keywords you should include on any one web page, but keeping it down to a limit of 2-3 is good practice. Make sure that the keywords you use match your website niche. The 5 tips below will help you get started.
Tip 1 – Take The Time To Do Keyword Research Properly.
Find the right keywords directly related to your niche market. By taking the time to do this first, you can craft the web pages of your website a lot easier. This will also save you time in the long run, because there’s nothing worse than randomly choosing keywords you like the sound of. Only to find out later that no one is searching for those “random words”. You’ll end up having to find new ones, and start the process all over again. Therefore, invest the time now to research properly, or find a good keyword tool that will search & save you time.
Tip 2 – Choose Keywords With Good Monthly Search Volume.
A side from keywords having relevance, they should also have a good level of monthly search volume, (people searching them). As a indicator, a keyword with 1,000 searches each month, is fairly good. If you can rank in the top three positions of Google, Yahoo or Bing, you will at least get a percentage of those 1,000 people. If you can rank at the NO.1 spot, it is likely that percentage will be much higher.
A keyword can have any number of monthly searches, it will be different for every niche market. Naturally, the higher the search volume, the higher the visitor count your website will be. For instance, a percentage of 20,000 searches will bring you more visitors than a percentage of 1,000 searches. However, don’t automatically disregard keywords with only a few hundred monthly searches. Those keywords can turn out to be very valuable too. I’ll cover more on low search volume keywords in a later post.
Tip 3 – Writing Content Around Keywords and Key Phrases.
Once you have your chosen keywords or key phrases, you can begin to write content around them. If you get stuck on what to write or how to present it, remember your school days! That essay you had to write for English class, needed a beginning, a middle and an end. You start at the beginning (your title), then the middle, (the information about your products or services), and then the end, (a summary or conclusion).
You should use your keywords seamlessly throughout the content without over doing it. Search engines are more interested in relevance and quality, than they are keyword stuffing for the purpose of ranking. If your content is interesting, makes sense and gives value, that will get you noticed quicker and ultimately placed higher in the organic search listings.
Tip 4 – SEO Meta Keyword Tag, Title & Description Tags.
There are thousands, (probably ten of thousands), of websites that are missing the meta keyword tag. I’ve found that the title and or the description tags are included more, than the keyword tag. Not sure why that is, but my advice would be to use the keyword tag as much as the other two tags. Most website templates will have a space in the HTML or TEXT area to fill in the meta tag information. If you’re using WordPress, there are several plugins that can help with this.
If you’re using a website builder outside of WordPress, look in the TEXT or HTML area of that website template. You will find where to put the meta tag details. Include your main keyword or key phrase in all three meta tags, but with the keyword tag, add one or two related keywords in there too. (related keywords – see Tip 5).
Tip 5 – Your Main Keyword and Related Keywords or Key Phrases.
Each web page should have one main keyword or key phrase, and one or two other related keywords or phrases. Using closely related keywords in the content of your web pages will help break-up your content into sections, sub headings or further explain the information you want to present to your visitors.
There are a number of different ways you can find related keywords. For now, I’ll stick with a couple of quick free ways. Type any keyword or phrase into Google, Yahoo or Bing Search. Hit enter, then scroll down to the bottom of the page, there you will find a short list of related keywords and phrases the search engines have already identified for you.
Choose the ones that best suit your needs. Then go to the Google Keyword Planner Tool. Enter the keywords to check their search volume, competition, and the advertising cpc. Narrow down the ones that have a decent amount of monthly searches, (500+ searches). With low to medium competition and a cpc (cost per click) advertising rate of $0.02+. This method is just a guide but it’s an easy and free way to start finding good related keywords. The task may take an hour or two, but it’s worth spending the time to do it!
